    1 milion $ question: get into the real DOS flashing procedure

    Imagine to be under DOS and you are about to flash you dvd hardware. This is what appears before the critical moment:

    SDR 081 Series DVD-ROM Firmware Utility v6.60
    Copyright reserved: Quanta Storage Inc.
    Author: Simeon Chu
    Usage: QFS DR 081 [port] [/Tx] [/Q] [/Ffilename] <CR>
    Where IDE port :
    1 = 1st master
    2 = 1st slave
    3 = 2nd master
    4 = 2nd slave
    * no settings stands for autosearch
    /Tx: change drive IDE configuration
    x = M: Master ; S: slave; C: Cable select ; R: reverse cable select
    /Q: quiet mode (no beeps after flash complete)

    A:\ _

    This is what appears when I launch the program from the boot disk (typing A:\Qfsrd081.exe)
    Qfsdr081 is the .exe file
    My bin file is EMR6.bin

    My dvd hardware is a qsi dvd-rom sdr-081 in a notebook. In device manager there isn’t any IDE text under dvd hardware.

    Can somebody competent explain me how to proceed? As you can see I’m quite a newbie.
    What do I have to type now? And the bin file, when does it come useful? Is it sure I can flash while booting with a floppy disc on the which I also have the 2 flashing files?

    THANK YOU FOR A REPLY I think this question will help many newbie flashers

    Cheers

    Unless you're changing any drive settings, it appears that, at the A:\ prompt you should type (No quotes): "Qfsdr081.exe/EMR6.bin"

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      not succeded

      I tried to type A:\qsfdr081.exe/emr6.bin but after the notebook had read a little from floppy the same long message comes out and I' find myself at the departure point.

      And when i return in windows xp my dvd info always show this:
      Region code : 1
      User: 0 changes left
      Manufacturer : 4 changes left
      Status: Fixed, can not be changed

      I'm really desperate: i don't want to send back my dvd drive to producer because he will make me pay to change from region 1 to 2, and i would prefer having all regions for free!

      waiting anxiously for your reply, i thank you

      cheers

              I guess there's nothing quie like finding out you've had the wrong file.

              Congratulations on your success ;>}

                firmware erased

                I was using simeon chu's qfsbw081.exe to update my dvd/cdrw drive's firmware and my notebook was powered off during the flashing, leaving my drive useless. when I try to run the update again, it can't find the drive. does anyone know a way I can force the firmware installation on the port I specify, perhaps by patching the exe or creating a new one altogether?

                thanks
