    AC3 playback problems - anyone please help/advise

ok hi and thanks in advance

    I have:-

SB Audigy (with firewire) 5.1 capable and spdif output jack doubles as front/sub in non digital mode)

    Samsung cdrw/dvd combo (SM-348)

SPDIF cable attached to back of dvd drive to sbaudigy - 2pin connector

power dvd v4 (supports dolby digital) audio settings are set to use spdif and reports that it is in use!

audigy hq software supports ac3 decode and digital output both ticked in software with digital mute off!

yamaha dsp with optical ac3 input (DSP A5) connected to audigy with mono jack to phono converter.

    a good ac3 film (various) -

    so far so good?

now if i output the audigy jack non digital and set amp to ext decode connecting the three output jacks via phono inputs on amp i have excellent sound and audigy speaker test is correct left channel, right rear, center all correct and great.

but if i set the audigy jack to digital and hook up lead (mono jack to single phono on digital input on amp) my amp does not switch to AC3 when playing a movie (it does this on optical input from dedicated stand alone player) and appears to be in pro - logic only!!!! also speaker test only works on left and right channel - arrrrgggghhhhh!

changing audiohq - device controls to a 96khz setting results in amp switching to PCM mode so lead/digital out on audigy/digital phono in on amp, must be working.

if youve read this far and followed the above great got any ideas where to go from here???

All I can tell you you get out what you put in. Its not that hard to understand. Just rethink what your doing. Try to make the question more simple to go through with you.(make it make sence) 5.1 it has to be that going in , Not mono. Just remember what goes in will come out.

      ok thanks!

having now installed windvd trial ver I now have AC3 working for movies!!! so power dvd v4.5 imo has its problems as far as sound is concerned...

Also FYI and anyone else experienceing similar probs... (damn cant paste pics...)

      1) Physical connections needed.
      a) SPDIF two pin cable from internal dvd drive to sound card SPDIF input (maplins sell these for £2.99).
      b) MONO 3.5mm jack in analogue/digital out of sound card (for audigy this is orange and the top connection) to phono lead that connects to digital coaxail input on amplifier.

      2) Software settings.
      a) Ensure in AudioHQ/speaker that digital output only is ticked! (this outputs/redirects all sounds effects etc) also cd digital mute is NOT ticked!!! (advanced settings AC3 decode and bass redirection make F.A. difference for movies...!)
      b) DVD genie if used has SPDIF output ticked (if required for player! powerdvd does NOT have this setting in dvdgenie but Windvd DOES!)
      c) Player itself has SPDIF selected in audio setting output

hopefullly this will be of some help to anyone else with probs...

and i am now a windvd (shudder!) errrmmm fan? will try and get power dvd 5 and try that but i could only get windvd at the mo... will keep ya posted!
