I have a workprint verison of a .mpeg, is there any way to black out the top and bottom of the movie so i dont have to see all the clocks and #s?

Welcome to forum.
You could use FFDshow as playback filter and use it's crop fuction to crop out bars during playback. Can be found in the software/filters page.
