Could my older standalone be messing up my burned dvds?

I can play burned dvds in my newer JVC standalone fine but if I then try to play them in my older Panasonic they start to skip either right away or within the first 30 mins. I know it could be a compatibility issue with my older standalone and understand it might not be able to play certain burned dvds.

The really odd thing, to me anyway, is if I then take the dvd back out of my older Panasonic and try it back in my newer JVC it won't work at all then. Why would it play perfectly in the newer JVC then once it is played in the older Panasonic not be able to work at all in the newer JVC? Could my older Panasonic be "messing" up my burned dvds?

Anything is possible - particularly if you've not recently cleaned your older DVD player. There could be solid particulates "floating around"...
