          Hi, I'm also a complete novice and am trying to convert a divx to svcd, I have tried using TMPEGenc but it say's " can not open or unsupported" each time I try to encode. Thanks

            1) Use "TMPGEnc" to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

            2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc) to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)

            **If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress

            If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
            (As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

            Let us know of your success ;>}
            OK, I've done this (except for shrinking the DVD because I didn't need to) but I don't know what to do about the audio. When I ran TMPGEnc and did it, it made the .wav files for the audio and then I used TMPGEnc DVD Author to make the extra files but it didnt' do anything with the .wav files so audio_ts is empty. Do I use the .wav files that were made with TMPGEnc and just simply place them in the audio_ts folder or do I need to use another program and do something else? (Note: When I play the .wav files , I do not hear anything)

              "audio_ts is empty."

              The "AUDIO_TS" folder is ALWAYS empty on a video DVD. The audiostream is "multiplexed" with the videostream in the .VOB files...

                Well, I burned the DVD and it played but it had no sound. What should I do, specifically?

                  When using the TMPGEnc "Wizard" set the audiostream as "MPEG2-Layer1" format and (If I remember correctly) set it to NOT save audio separately from video ("Multiplex" or intertwine the video and audiostreams into one file)...
