powerdvd/windvd"play dvd from hard disk" fail

I have got 2 dvd flics on HD that
neither windvd nor powerdvd would play as dvd.
Nevertheless playing them without subtitles would be useless to me ( they`re being italian and french)
Any idea anyone of a way to play only the VOB files with the subtitles ?
or is encoding them the only option ?
    ThanQ in advance.

Use DVD Decrypter to rerip the FULL ORIGINAL DVDs to your hard drive...

      ThanQ for responding, Setarip.
      Surely, reripping would do it.
The question is if anything short of it would too...
Assuming for example one`s own original copies are lost or destroyed in some horrific accident... and having remained only these virtual copies...

If you still have (besides the .vob files) the .ifo files of the original discs, you can rip the subtitles off using Vobsub. Then you can view these .vob files using the ripped subtitles.

        Regards.

          Thanks, Enchanter.
That is a solution I was looking for and that I will do.
I must apologise for adding only this question: What player should I use afterwards to enable me viewing the VOBs with the VOBSUB ripped subtitles ?
          Sorry again for the REbother...
          Thankfully

DirectVobSub can be used to view the ripped subtitles in conjunction with playback of a video. DirectVobSub is normally a part of Vobsub installation and can be found under the Start Menu.

To open the ripped subtitles, (during playback) go to DirectVobSub configuration -> Main tab -> Open... and select either the .IDX or .SUB files. The version 2.23 I am using does not allow choosing between languages (in the case of more than language for subtitle) and is always set to display the first language. Later versions might have fixed this already.

Also, please note that I have never tried playing .VOB files in conjunction with ripped subtitles, so there might be one or two problems (that I am obviously not aware of) along the way before you can truly enjoy your show.

            Regards.

              Thanks enchanter for elaborating.
This sounds like a perfect solution for me, and I am sure to post a reply to this thread in a couple of days, reporting what seems to me, hopefully, very likely to be a succefull result of your solution.
              ThanQ again in the meanwhile,
