DVD playback on TV

Hello,

I would like to improve my playback on TV. If I view my DVD (with PowerDVD) or Divx (BSPlayer) on my TV (16/9) I always get black lines on the screen (left/right and a little up/down). I have seen this on many computers/TV and then I suppose it is considered "normal" but how can I get rid off it and use the whole size of my television?

Would using a add-on like the Trust Television help?

Or should I get a new graphic video card? In this case which one? To be able to fix this "small but annoying" problem?

I have been wondering about this because I want to buy a 16x9.

So when you have the Windows desktop showing on your TV, is the entire desktop resized and out of proportion? Or is it in 4:3 format and just doesn't reach the edges?
