If u intent to use a dvd rom on a pc there is no need of flashing firmwire.
on the other hand standalone dvd players somtimes require hacks.

      jonss,

      Hi,

adder was answered correctly. adder was told to either make a region-free dvd copy with 'decrypter or SmartRipper so to watch the movie or to :

as megamachine said, buy a region free software or take a chance (on harming dvd-rom drive) with a firm ware flash.
      Rig :

      P - 4 @ 1.7 Ghz, 768 mb (133) Ram, Intel 845 chipset M'board, Seagate 60 Gig., 5400 rpsm hdd, Maxtor 40 Gig. 7200 rpm hdd, Hauppauge 880 pvr card, etc.. O.S. - XP Home Edition.

"as megamachine said, buy a region free software or take a chance (on harming dvd-rom drive) with a firm ware flash."

you may harm it but your flashing it for your own good.

decryptit, yer confusing me. i'll be needing to make a region-free backup of a region 2 dvd so i can play it on my standalone dvd player [which is a sony.]

i have no plans of flashing my firmware [i'm not even really sure what this means]

              thanks again.

              your intergalactic pal,

                spacebpy,

Nobody on this thread has tried to confuse you. We have all tried to help you.

What decryptit said and others have said is the easiest and simplest solution. As decryptit said (for only 2 dvd's, it's not worth risk of flaashing drive or to buy a region-free software player when ,a be a hack for your standalone dvd player to play all regions dvd's is available sometimes.

To make things more simple. A "hack" for a standalone is simply pushing the remote control buttons (usually less than 10 buttons). If such a hack isn't available, then do as was stated earlier and rip with dvddecrypter and make a new disc all regions.

post the exact model and year of sony dvd standalone player, so we can find you a remote control "hack" so you can play the offending discs.

First of all i'm not confusing you"spacebpy"
and in order to help you you must give in the name of ur player cause hacks vary alot and if ur lucky enough you might only need a software if your player accepts it!
