I need to know if i burn avi files to cd-r , will I be able to play the cd on a non-pc dvd player??? And also, can I burn them in avi format or do they need to be converted to a diff. format, and if so which one? Thanks alot for any help you can give.

If you convert them to either VCD or SVCD format (my preferred software for doing that is TMPGEnc) and then burn them to CD-Rs the MAY play on your standalone DVD player. I say "MAY" because:

    A) Not all standalone players play VCDs or SVCDs

    and

    B) Many standalone players are "finicky" about which brands of CD-R they will recognize.

I personally have had great success using the Prime Peripherals, ArtMedia, and Princo brands of CD-R. Additionally, many standalone players WILL recognize almost any brand of R/W CDs.

For information specific to your make/model of standalone player, go to:

Video forums, video software downloads, guides, blu-ray players and media.
