    Problem with TEMPGEnc v.2.51

    I have downloaded TMPGEnc v.2.51, as well as the VFAPI plug-in. I unzipped them both into the same directory, I ran the TMPGEncVFP_Installer.bat file, and I still can't load my AVI files.

    I started the TMPGEnc program, clicked on LOAD, loaded the VideoCD [NTSCfim].mcf Template, then clicked BROWSE for Video source, and I got this mesage, "File XXXXX.avi can not open, or unsupported.

    I can click BROWSE for the Audio source and the movie name will show in it, but I it won't for Video.

    Please HELP!

    Click on "Option". If it doesn't already have a checkmark next to it, click on "TMPGEnc.vfp is registered to VFAPI".

    Let us know if this solves your problem ;>}

      Setarip,

      Thanks for the response, but it is checked (TMPGEnc.vfp is registered to VFAPI), and it still doesn't work.

      Before posting this message, I read through several messages on this site, and it seem that many people have this same problem, but I never could find a POST messages that resolved this issue.

      If this helps, I am trying to do this to an .avi file that I downloaded from the internet (~710mb).

      Thanks

        1) Just an outside shot (since I continue to use v.1.2c myself) - Have you tried loading the "Unlock. mcf"?

        2) Under "Options" dropdown menu, select "Environmental Settings". Click on the "VFAPI Plugin" tab. Rightclick on any .AVI-related plugins that are listed with a negative priority and increase them to -0-

        Do let us know if either suggestion resolves your problem ;>}

        P.S. You DO have a DivX-AVI codec and/or other AVI codecs installed on your system, don't you?

          It workes!!!

          Setarip,

          It was the DivX-AVI codec. I downloaded one from the link below and it works now.

          Now I need to learn to use this program.

          Thank You very much

          P.S.: Would it be too much trouble for you to POST directions to make a good quality VideoCd Movie? I have tried to Virtualdub and cut the movies in half, then burned them using NERO as VideoCd's but the quality is very poor. If this is normal, then I will need to advance to DVD to DVD-R technology $$$$, but thats life. Again thanks for your help......

            It would be my pleasure ;>}

            Here it is, "from soup to nuts":
            From Ripping through VCD (by me)

            1) Rip DVD with Clad v.1.71(not MDEC, the one I use is an older, totally reliable version - not to say that the MDEC version is unreliable)

            2) Convert to .AVI using Flask v.0.594PX3 (improved conversion time versus "plain vanilla" 0.594 - and less prone to lockup)
            A) Using DivX v.3.11 codec (Fast Motion 910kbps, keyframe every 10 seconds)
            B) Using PCM (uncompressed) audio at 48,000Khz (Maintains synchronization of audio and video)

            3) Load .AVI into VirtualDub v.1.4D
            A) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
            B) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
            C) Under "Audio", click on "Conversion", select "44,100Khz"
            D) Under "Audio", click on "Compression" select "MP3", "44,100Khz", "96Kbps"
            E) Save revised .AVI with new filename

            Then, to create a VCD:

            1) Load .AVI file into TMPGEnc
            2) Set to "System Video and Audio" (lower right side)
            3) Click on "Setting" radio button
            4) Click on "System" tab, change mode to "MPEG1-VideoCD" (from default of "MPEG1")
            5) Click on "Advanced" tab, change "Video arrange method" to "Center (Custom Size"), change dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240
            6) Change "Source aspect ratio" to either "4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)", "4:3 525 line (NTSC)", or "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" - If you're in the PAL world choose either of the two similar PAL settings instead
            7) Under the "Video" tab, change the dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240 (Note: "Video" tab mode of "MPEG1" is okay) - For extra high quality, set "Motion Search Precision" to "Highest Quality"
            8) Change "Rate Control Mode" to "Automatic VBR (CQ_VBR)
            9) Press "Start"

            Note that if your video runs longer than 60 minutes, you'll have to subsequently split your VCD-MPG file in two. This too can be easily and precisely accomplished using TMPGEnc. Under the "Files" dropdown menu, click on "MPEG Tools" and select the "Merge & Cut" tab. Once again, make sure to change the mode to "MPEG1-Video CD". Load your file and enter a new (.MPG) name in the "Output file" box. Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL file's name in the window, which will bring you to the cutting area. Select your desired start and end points for the first half, click on "Okay" which will bring you back to the first window and generate (in a sequence of three automated steps) the first new file. To create the second new file, repeat the steps starting with "Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL..." (be extra patient with the second half, as the program has to do more seeking to establish the beginning of the new file)

                VirtualDub 1.48 MP3???

                Setarip,

                Everything has worked great so far, except for the following:

                D) Under "Audio", click on "Compression" select "MP3", "44,100Khz", "96Kbps"

                When following your instructions earlier in the POST, when I get to this step I don't see MP3 as an option. Do I need to install something else or is it named something else that I am unaware of?

                Please Help!

                  Glad to hear that everything else is working for you...

                  "Do I need to install something else?"

                  Apparently you don't have an MPEG3 (MP3) codec installed. Download and install the Radium MP3 codec (modified version of the original Fraunhoefer).

                  Looking forward to hearing that you've now attained perfection ;>}

                    Radium

                    Setarip,

                    I downloaded Radium and now I show, MPEG Layer-3. Is this MP3? (Sorry for the inexperience)

                      The above was part of my last post - Yes, MP3=MPEG3...
