Big trouble reading DVD-R

Hello there,
This is my first and do I have a problem. Let me explain:
I'm using W-NT. I recieved a DVD-R from my cousin in Belgium with old family movies on it. This DVD-R was burned on a dvd writer Pioneer 5100hd and not a pc. There are no region restrictions on the dvd. I can read CD-Rom music with video on it but not the DVD-R that I got.
Can anyone out there please let me know what I have to do to make this function.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Perhaps your DVD player is not compatible with -R media. Visit the following link to check:
