Needed: Free MPEG-2 Codec

I am looking for a free MPEG 2 codec I can install on serveral comptuers. The need is this: at the school I work at, we would like to brodcast special class videos over the network via our Vbrick encoder. To have students watch the video stream, they need an MPEG 2 codec on their computers.
Is there any place I can download free DVD playing software that has this codec, or a place I can find just an installer for such a codec?
