Help - Can't play back any more

My Pioneer 106RD rev 1.07 is playing back garbled screen made up of alternate green & purple blocks.
It is the same for original & burn't DVD's.
It still burns OK and plays CD etc but just produces garbage on playback.
I think it must be OS software or something cos i've just swapped in an LG unit and it does exactly the same.
I have Power DVD XP and also latest Windows media player.
    set for region 2.
Can anyone suggest what may be wrong?

    thanks

Check to see if your videocard is securely seated/connected...

      Card is OK.
In desperation I have installed a trial of Windvd.
      This works perfectly!!

For some reason the other decoders are no longer operating.
      Can't work out why?

WinDVD uses its own MPEG-2 (DVD) video driver. I suspect that, prior to installing WinDVD, whatever MPEG-2 driver you had installed on your system had somehow been corrupted...

Thanks setarip, i'm thinking along the same lines myself.
I have uninstalled Power dvd and reinstalled but still doesn't work.
Do you know how to reinstall the mpeg-2 decoder driver?

If your O/S is WinXP, simply perform a "System Restore", going back to the last time PowerDVD worked properly...
