    Dvd Freezes After Five Minutes

    Morning!

I've got an interesting problem. I have three different DVD players- ATI's that comes with the Radeon 7000 VE, PowerDVD and Win DVD.

NO MATTER what I do, each of these players freezes after 5-7 minutes (even if i fastforward!) The audio continues, but the video just gets stuck.

I have recently built my first PC- Athlon system, have 128 MB of RAM, 80 gig HDD (7200) and a Asus A7A266 motherboard, which has worked beautifully so far. DMA is turned on and I have set custom virtual memory setting to try and solve the probem.

Any suggestions? What am I doing worng

    Thanks,
    Samiboy

Have you considered the possibility of a faulty drive?

      Yes, but....

Yes, but I would be bothered by the fact that the audio still continues....

Do you think i could be suffering from some kind of buffer underrun? Is a temp file created during DVD playback?

If I had the cash, i'd run right out and buy a new one...but I don't!

        NOT BROKEN!

        Looking for that elusive suggestion...

I was able to pull the DVD and place it in one of my office PC's- it worked great, and had no problems playing at all.

The office PC is a immodest PII 450 with384 mgs of ram and 30 gigs of space, with 8 mgs of video ram. It looked great.

        Stumped. Any suggestions?

          You are not alone...

I too have the same problem.

          I have recently installed a Pioneer x16 DVD into a PIII500 system (256MB RAM, 32MB TNT2 AGP vid card, Win 98).

Tried this with dvdplayer.exe - video freezes after 4-6 mins sound continues. Close program and re-open shows frozen picture at same point. Re-boot and re-open starts the dvd at the beginning again!

Tried with other freeware players - same result.

Tried with Power DVD and InterVideo demos - both get to 5 or 6 minute time out without problems.

Drivers are the most up to date ones and DVD drive is next letter after HDD (suggested by some fora).

          Any suggestions gratefully received!!

            Fixed!

            Leyther-
After pulling my machine out and testing it on another system, I reinstalled it from scratch.

Things are working great- no freezes. Which of course leads me to believe that it was my initial installation. Power DVD runs great now. But how can you screw up a simple IDE cable, power, and sound cable? Who knows?

            Good luck!
