    avi to mpeg...

i used TMPEG to encode an avi to mpeg(DVD) and lost audio.
the movie plays fine in avi, but when i ran it on gspot it gave me n.a.'s on all my audio and video codecs. don't know if that helps but I hope someone has some insight. Thanks

      1) Load the original .AVI into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

      2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

      3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

You can load the converted mpeg in Avocodec and it will tell you the specs for the video and audio and if the proper codec is installed and what codec/s are needed.

Thanks Fil, it is indeed Avicodec. Sorry about that. Kinda curious now. What does Avocodec mean in the Danish language. LOL.

"i used TMPEG to encode an avi to mpeg(DVD) and lost audio."

Try this procedure (originally posted by setarip):

Simply use VirtualDubMOD (Different than standard VirtualDub), to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Using VirtualDubMOD to Convert "VBR" .MP3 to Uncompressed .WAV

                  1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDubMOD (a different program than the standard VirtualDub)

                  2) From the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Direct Stream Copy"

                  3) From the "Streams" dropdown menu, select "Stream List" - and rightclick on the audio stream, then select "Full Processing Mode" - then click on "OK"

                  4) From the "File" dropdown menu, save the .AVI with a new filename

After you have successfully accomplished the above, load the "Newly" created AVI file into TMPGEnc and then convert to mpeg.

                    My pleasure.

Its amazing that one letter can change the name of a tool into a smut magneto.

                    I wouldnt complain.

thanks guys worked like a charm. do you have any opinions on the best ways to get subtitles for movies by themselves. to be more clear, just the file with subtitles. is there a site for this and is it possible to attach to existing movie?
