DVD-ROM drive issue

I am using a Pioneer DVD-A03S dvdrom drive connected on the on-board (PIIX4) controller and everything (DVD playback and ripping) was OK. I recently installed a Promise Ultra66 controller and I decided to connect the dvdrom drive there. Result: System crashes when I try to play a DVD (I use powerdvd) and system also crashes with every DVD-ripper I try. That's on WindowsXP. On Windows98 with the same configuration everything is OK!
Note: The ultra66 controller drivers under WinXP are the ones coming with the OS. And i suspect the problem to be in the drivers.

Any suggestions?? (except connecting the dvdrom drive back on the PIIX4!)
