Letterboxed Widescreen Playback in WMP 10

Hello all; I have a question concerning playing widescreen DVDs in Windows Media Player 10. I have a widescreen laptop, thus I would prefer to view my DVDs in widescreen format so that I may use as much of my screen as possible. Unfortunately, when I try this I get a 'letterbox' around the picture (black bars on all sides). Full-screen dvds properly exhaust the vertical dimension of my screen, leaving black bars only on the sides, but widescreen DVDs exhaust neither dimension. I have no other software on my computer that plays DVDs, and would like to use WMP 10 if at all possible. Can anyone help me resolve this issue? Is this an issue with WMP, or might it be a setting I should change somewhere? I'm running WinXP Home SP2. If you need any more information, just let me know.

Thank you kindly for your help,

    Joe

try playing your movies with "powerdvd 5.0"... it plays back widescreen content on widescreen monitors very well
