    Copyright error

Sory if this topic has already been repeated. If it has can you please link me to the right place?

I installed recently an ASUS dvd ROM playeron My xp windows. And I wanted to try out a dvd disk on it. But after PowerDVD loads up and I put the disk in it gives me this error:

    Error 8090000D
An unexpected copy protection error has occured. Unable to play disk.

I assume this error is for people who want to rip the dvd but I didn't think it would be there when you just want to play it. Anyhoos, any help?

"An unexpected copy protection error has occured. Unable to play disk."

Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling PowerDVD? Also, it might be a "Region" issue with the disk.

I found that uninstalling the software and installing it again only helped in playing a VCD disk. But if I tried playing a DVD disk it still gives me a copyright error which means I need to get a decoder for the dvd. Any one knows any good decoders? Not for burning dvds but to actually play them..

          "DVD Decrypter" or "SmartRipper"

I have installed DVD decrypter but I keep getting errors with it. One of the errors is this:
            I/O Error !

            Scsi Status: 0 X02
            Interpretation: Check condition

cBD : blah blah blah.. (numbers)

            Sense area: blahblahblah (numbers)
Intepretation: Copy Protection key exchange failure: Key not Established.

What on earth does that mean?

You may have a "Scratched" or "Dirty" (Dusty) original DVD. Try "Cleaning" the disk.

I really don't know what is wrong. the disks are fine. They work on a standard dvd player for the tv but they the dvd rom won't accept anything.
a number of decrypters and decoders and nothing would work. Maybe it just comes to a bad dvd rom or PowerDVD being bad..

Thanks for helping though. I'll just have to leave it.

Are you saying that the ROM drive will not play any DVDs or CDs? Perhaps it is faulty. Return it if you can and purchase another one.
