PowerDVD Display Mode Problem

Hey guys,

I had no problems with my PowerDVD v 4 on my PC until recently . I can't play any dvds with it. When I attempt to play a dvd, it gives me this message:

The current display mode is not supported. PowerDVD does not support the current display mode. (DDraw Overlay mode is recommended)

Please lower the screen resolution and color depth, for example, 800x600 with 256 colors. Or you may adjust the refresh frequency, for example, to 75 Hz.

I tried changing the display settings and resolutions, but nothing works.

I tried restoring my system an earlier date when PowerDVD worked, but it didnt work. The reason it gave me was : ''your system can't be restored because no changes have been made to your system since.

Other additional info: I'm running on Windows 2000, my DirectX is version 8, my display adaptor is NVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64.

try downloading & installing your latest drivers, as well as directx 9.0c

get your latest video card drivers at http://www.nvidia.com

get directx 9.0c at http://www.microsoft.com/directx

Control Panel>>DirectX>>DirectDraw Put a checkmark next to "Hardware Acceleration" and click on "OK"...

thanks ziadost! tried it but it still isnt working tho... should i have downloaded ALL the drivers? >

setarip: there wasnt directx on my control panel... i found the DirectX folder but no sign of DirectDraw...

It's hard to understand how these two statements can co-exist.

There should be SEVERAL files with names starting with "DDRAW"

as i mentioned above, download & install "directx 9.0c". to run directx, click "start", "run", then in the box, type in "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), then click OK

you should only install the drivers for your video card...

hi,check whether you are running some kind of firewall or anti-virus softwares!If you are,you can try use powerDVD after you set those softwares off! It may solve your problem

I found this link on a search from Google. I have been getting the exact same error after doing a complete new install of Windows 2003 Server (Enterprise Edition) as well as dual booting with XP Pro. I get the same error in both OS.
I have tried...
-using the settings specified in the error message
-using default Windows drivers and or older/newest drivers for my Nvidia GeForce MX440 video card
-have tried using Direct x 8.1, and 9.0c
-have uninstalled Power DVD XP and reinstalled
-have installed older version of Power DVD (3.0 I think)

This software was working before fine and as I said a complete new install of both OS was performed.

Intel P4 2.66
RAM 512
Windows 2003 Server EE SP1
Windows XP Pro (no service pack applied yet)
LG DVD ROM drive
