stuttery playback

ok, so i have this sony ddu1612 dvd drive...it USED to work fine with dvd's but the only problem was that when i tryed to play a regular music only CD..the audio would stutter...NOW if i play a DVD the audio AND video stutter as well..it like plays in slow motion...but a really horrible slow motion...a stuttery one!!! PLEASE anyone help me out...ive been searchin all over the net tryin to find answers but no to avail....any help is greatly appriciated.thanks.

Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on the drive. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US...

yea i tryed a cheap one i got from radio shack...didnt work...maybe ill buy this maxell one and try that..thanks!!!
