dvd players

Hi I have a lite-on sohw1633 recorder.I have tried to back up some dvd movies with dvd-cloner II ,x-copy xpress but wont play on my dvd player.I have a go vr5940.
I get cant read disk.
My main question is whats the best combination of backup software and dvd player compatability.and media?
