AVSEQ01.dat/mpg files from DVD cds are extremely flawed

Hey, when ever i play exact copies of dvds, (off my hd), when they are on my harddrive, and i try use power dvd or windvd, the sound is choppy & flawed, and there is no picture... why is this?
it seems that i may need a Codec, but ive no idea which one

this has happened with about 4 or five dvd copies i have, these have not been burned, just extracted...

any info would be appriciated, i know many people having this same problem
    thanks, ty

When you say "exact copies", do you mean that literally? Did you simply copy all of the files froma DVD to your hard drive? If so, they certainly won't play properly, because they include a copy protection scheme.

If you mean something else, perhaps you could clarify...

By the way, what, if anything, does this have to do with .AVESEQ01.dat files?

I did not copy them myself, someone else did, i just managed to get it online, so they should be working copies.... and what does this have to do with AVSEQ01.dat? files

well because those are the files on the dvd/ or that u download which contain the video footage... there are five folders in eatch dvd, CDI, EXT, MPEGAV (where avseq01.mpg or .dat is found) segment, and vcd. ive been told by many peeps that u can play avseq01.mpg or .dat files with media player, or programs like windvd/powerdvd

but it ****s up when i try, it has shit sound, and no picture

"well because those are the files on the dvd/"

        Nooooo...

What you are now describing are ripped, converted, and compressed videos. The only thing these files have in common with DVDs is that they both contain videos.

The file groupings you've described are either VCD (AVSEQ01.DAT) or SVCD (AVSEQ01.MPG) - and both of these should play properly under WinDVD - unless of course, you've downloaded crap - which is not at all uncommon.
