    DVD Info pro questions

    Hi,

I visited the DVD Info Pro web site and did not find any FAQ's or forums, so I hope it will be appropriate to ask a few questions about it on here since I have seen so many referrals to that program.

First, how many red boxes are too many? Or is it the number of read errors that matter. I have not found a single disc that did not come up with at least a red box or two, including originals that I had the program scan.

Is there any way to know if the read errors are disc problems or burn problems?

    Thanks,

    Tom

If originals come up with red, they at the very least, need careful cleaning. Obviously they will not backup properly in this state, but equally, your copies should not have reds - even whites are undesirable.

Gentle radial (centre to edge) wipes with toothpaste or isopropyl alcohol, then clean lint-free cloth should remove grease and finger prints etc. Scratches are more problematic and in worst case, one of those spiral abrasive tools should help but be careful!
Best really to have been careful to begin with.

Of course, blanks might be merely incompatible with your burner. Check out www.videohelp.com/writers and your writer manufacturer for possible firmware updates
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

If I can followup on my last question: what will a single red box actually manifest when the disc is played back? Will it cause a single frame freeze, a single skip, a single jump . . . how does a single red box interfere with playback?

I have installed the latest firmware for my burner, and I just tried to get to www.videohelp.com/writers, but found it either removed or temporarily unavailable.

      Thanks.

      Tom

The site works - just get rid off the last comma character (,)

          Yours - www.videohelp.com/writers,

          Mine - www.videohelp.com/writers

See the difference, the comma (,) after "writers" in yours is why it wouldn't work.
