    Recent Problems

I have been backing up DVD's for about a year now. I use a LiteOn 4x DVD Burner along with Fujifilm/Memorex DVD+R 4x dvds. i have always used dvd xcopy plat and it has worked brilliant regardless of the size of the dvd. anything from 4GB to 7.3GB it would backup, if it is over 7.3 i would just use the simple mode in which case it backs up just the movie. just recently i have been having problems playing back movies that are over 100 mins or so. when it gets to the 1hr 40min mark or higher it just freezes! i got an update for xcopy which is version 4.0 something and still the same problems. also i have been trying dvd decrypter and dvdshrink and even had a problem too. and even that method takes way to long to back up a movie, with xcopy it takes about 45 mins to have it copied and burned. any ideas or recommendations?? thanks in advance!!

If playback is getting a little flaky, have you run a lens cleaning CD/DVD in your player?
Recording to the very outer edge of media can be problemmatic. Try reducing the target size a little if you can. Also, lowering the burn speed might help. Have you checked www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters to see what brand works best in your burner. There's a tab for players there too.

Is there a way to lower the target size in dvd xcopy? i know it can be done in dvd shrink. also, i looked on that site and there are a lot of complaints about lite-ons. so im thinking maybe its the drive, im going to try to upgrade the firmware first though, maybe that will help.

i have a lite-on dvd writer joe 99c, and if you conatct lite-on you will find out that they ARE NOT compatible with our writers. your first step should be to get rid of those discs. optodisc works excellent, verbatim too. i for one have had great success with lite-on dvd writers/burners and consider them rather good.
