    PC won't recognize burned DVDs

My computer fails to recognize burned dvds although I am able to play them in my PS2. What could be the problem?

I think I found out why the Hitachi DVD-ROM won't play:

"I wrote to Hitachi Support and that's the answer:

The GD 5000 is only capable of reading DVD R media with a
3.95 GB capacity. If you are using a standard 4.7 GB DVD R
disc, that is the problem. The GD 5000 was manufactured
before the DVD consortium agreed upon a 4.7 GB standard.
There is no firmware update for the GD 5000.

    Regards,

    Hitachi Optical Support "

But still.... why can't my dvd burner play the dvd it burned???

You've already been given (and have quoted) the answer - Because your Hitachi drive will NOT recognize a DVD that is greater than 3.95Gb capacity...

Yes, I'm aware of that, but can you explain why my burner doesn't? Sometimes the burner picks it up. Sometimes it doesn't.
