NTSC PAL etc etc

Hey,
I just have a question mainly for people in the US, I live in Australia and i had a friend go over to the US recently and I want to send her some home movies from my PAL DV video camera. I was just curious if I recorded these to PAL DVD would they play on American NTSC systems? Do American TVs have PAL playback? In Australia basically every TV, DVD, VCR etc you can buy is cabable of playing both formats. So will she be able to watch them or will I have to convert them to NTSC?

You'll have to convert to NTSC...

(U.S. TVs don't have the dual capability and only a few models of standalone DVD players have the ability to properly display both formats)

How do you convert PAL DVD (already authored and stored) back to NTSC? Any software solution?
