CinePlayer v4.0 sound problem - please, help me

I recently bought CinePlayer DVD v4.0. I'm truly amazed by its capabilities - image quality, performance, but... I have a serious problem with sound. I own 4-channel C-Media 8738 sound card. When I select "pass through device..." in audio options tab, the movie cannot be started. Program shows message box with error - "an error occured, close application and restart computer". I tried every selection from "pass through..." combo box - none of them works. Audio test from Test button doesn't work at all. I don't want to watch movies with only 2-channel sound. What should I do ? Please, help me. Please.
I have a PIII 450 MHz, 64MB RAM, AOpen Ax-63 Pro VIA Apollo Pro 133, Diamond Viper 550 (RIVA TNT), C-Media 8738, DVD LG x8/x40, Windows 98SE with all updates. All drivers are newest, whole system works perfectly.
P.S. Problem still exists when I install Windows 2000.
