    No Sound from Home Player

I used dvdsanta to fabricate a dvd. The dvd will play fine in my computers dvd drives. When I try to play the dvd in my homes jvc xv-s502 player (which accepts any type of disk), I get a picture but no sound. Trying to contact dvdsanta has been hopeless. I have tried a dvd-r and a dvd+r disk and get the same results.
    Thank you for any suggestions.

Try hitting the audio button on your DVD player remote control.

Are you selecting a audio stream in which your not capable of playing? (Example: Selecting DTS audio, while not have a compatible DTS receiver)

I tried the audio button on the remote, when I press it, I only see a 1/1, it does not have any options on its sub-menu. Normal movie dvd's work as well as music cds. It is probably something simple that I cannot figure out.

"I tried the audio button on the remote, when I press it, I only see a 1/1"
That is more than likely your problem. As you might have inadvertently selected a audio stream that is not compatible with your DVD player or receiver. I suggest re-ripping it, and selecting both "AC3 2-ch English" and/or "AC3 5.1-ch English".

          Jmet,
Not to take up your time, but I appreciate your responses. As you can see I am fairly new to this. Can you please guide me in the right direction. This is what I am doing to create a dvd:
          1. I have a ati 2.0 usb capture device that I capture the video through the lowest setting which is mpeg-1. I tried using ati's highest setting mpeg-2 which created a smaller file, but dvdsanta did not reconize the video stream. I have not tried to use ati's default setting in which I would have to convert to a mpeg file.
          2. I use dvdsanta to convert the mpeg file to dvd format. For a typical 1 hour show, the mpeg file is aproximately 3.1 gig. The files that dvdsanta create are:
          video_ts.bup @ 106kb
          video_ts.ifo @ 106kb
          vts_01_0.bup @ 54kb
          vts_01_0.ifo @ 54kb
          vts_01_1.vob @ 1,045,922 kb
          vts_01_2.vob @ 1,045,922 kb
          vts_01_3.vob @ 1,045,922 kb
          vts_01_4.vob @ 82,356 kb
I can double click on any vob file and it will play through ati's software. I have nero-6 ultra edition and the latest Roxio software and cold not figure out how to properly copy these files to the dvd disk. I tried copying the files using roxio and my home dvd player gave me an error. If there is a better way (software) of doing this, I would appreciate it.
Again, any help would be greatly apprecaited!
          Mike......

            Some corrections to the above.
At ati's lowest setting, a one hour show is approximately 612,731kb. At ati's highest setting (mpeg-2), the file size is approximately 2,902,000 kb.
            Thanks again.

I have never liked or used Roxio software, so I can be of no assistance there.

When you capture, what kind of video file does it save it as?

If it is already DVD compliant, simply load the file in DVD Shrink by using the "Open Files" button (not "Open Disc").

If the files are not DVD compliant, or you are having problems with them. Try this:

              Quoted By: "setarip"

              1) Use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

              2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)

**If the combined file size of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress

If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode - Tutorial Located here on how to do this: http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...453#post221453

A possible problem might be having Roxio and Nero installed together. Be sure to uninstall at lest one of the packet writing applications, InCD or DirectCD.
                A popular quoted guide from Setarip for an alternative to DVD Santa;

One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

                1) Use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

Please ignore my point about the packet writing - not appropriate here I think.

                      Jmet,
Thank you for pointing me to the post (tutorial) on how to use nero correctly. dvdsanta created all the files that were listed under step 10 of the nero tutorial. Unfortunately, I just arrived at work, so it will not be until tonight when I try this out.
                      Thank again,
                      Mike.....

Jmet - Thanks to your detailed tutorial, I was able to use nero to burn the cd. The bad news is that it still has no sound in my home dvd player. When I arrived home tonight I had a new Lite-LVW-5005 dvd recorder waiting for me. I will hook this up in the morning and see if I get any sound when I play the dvd on this player.
                          Thanks for all your help.

AND IT WORKS!!!! When I connected my new Lite LVW-5005 recorder, every dvd that I previously cut plays with sound. It must have been something with my JVC player. Thanks everyone (especially jmet) who responded, and sorry for putting you through these drills. Now the fun part, to connect all the cables to the correct ports on the Lite recorder in order to record directly from cable.
                            Thanks everyone again,
