    Problems with Sony DRU510

    Hi, Everyone,

I've searched these forums but I've not been able to find anything that relates to my problem, so here goes. I have a Sony DRU510 DVD Burner that appears to have a problem reading any DVDs that are released from Village Roadshow. I then try the same DVDs in the drive on my laptop and all is fine. At first I thought it was confined to just the one title (Muriel's Wedding 10th Anniv) but now I am noticing that at least another one (Miss Congeniality Deluxe Edition) is having the same issue.

I have not upgraded or modified the firmware on this drive since I've had it.

Has anyone come accross this problem before?

A firmware upgrade, although it can't hurt (if properly performed) shouldn't have any impact on your burner's ability to read a commercial, pressed DVD. It should be able to read any and all commercial DVDs, unless of course, the disc is for a different REGION...

        Thanks everyone for the replies.

The discs are for the correct region (4), the drive is not region free.

Yes they do for me too - in every other drive but the DRU-510A. I think I'm just going to get a DVD Rom to read them and use that to burn.

Anyway thanks everyone once again for all your help on this

if you want a good reader/combo, then try the lite-on (with the same lite-on badge). they cost around $65 au.

still finding it strange that it's effected by the village raodshow only (hmmm)

              cheers from melb

                Cheers from Sydney!

Well I am happy to report that I ran a cleaner through it and the movies it wouldn't read now work

I still might get a second drive though, I had two in my previous PC and I miss it.

Thanks once more for all your help.

Your perceived problem regarding only "Village Roadshow" must have just been a coincidence...
