I/O MAGIC: computer crashes on DVD playback

Half of the time when I go to play a DVD, my computer resets itself.

I/O Magic tech support is a joke...is this normal with this drive? I have the Dual Format 8x burner. I don't see any IRQ conflicts. Is it a power surge or something crazy?

I don't really want to go buy another drive...

1) Have you had previous success with a different burner and/or DVD-ROM installed on this same system?

2) What software are you using to play back the DVDs?

Yes, I had another burner. I am playing DVD's in Media Player Classic.

I've had this happen with WinDVD too.

Many many people are complaining about I/O Magic's drives. This is cold comfort, but it seems that the only magic involved is if they burn, and play, DVDs.

Sounds as if the power supply is going out but, I have been known to mistaken.

As an experiment, copy a DVD to your hardrive. Use WinDVD or MPC to "Play as DVD".

If your computer resets, you can eliminate your burner as the cause of the problem...

I tried to make it crash by repeatedly playing from my hard drive , my DVD burner, and my DVD-ROM drive.

I only got it to crash while playing from the burner. So I guess that means it's a POS and I have to depend on IOMagic to give me another one.

UPDATE!

Ever since I turned off DVD Region Killer, it hasn't crashed once. I forgot that was on

Still, no idea why it didn't crash with my DVD-ROM. Maybe IO/Magic drives and DVD Region Killer don't play well together.
