DVD playback sometime has no sound

This is driving me crazy so I hope someone can help.

I am in the process of moving VCR content to DVD using Ulead Moviefactory to capture, VideoStudio7 to edit and DVDshrink to create using Nero Express. Of the 6 DVDs created sofar 4 work fine when played back on a Conia M100 and 2 have good video but no sound, or should I say very very very very quiet sound.
I have tried using IFOedit and 2cools guide to strip the VOBs but so far no joy.

All 6 DVDs play just fine on PC using winDVD.

Anything else I can try??

Why would there be any ".VOB stripping" involved, if the original source was a VHS tape?

G'day Dommy. How're things in polly-land?

You might try to demux your audio track from the problem disks and listen to them through something like Showtime or Media Player Classic. Hopefully, it is just a volume issue and you can increase the volume with BeSweet and remux.

Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I am putting multiple AVfiles onto asingle DVD so I thought this process might just be messing up the VOB pointers a little.

I have just been looking at the audio in these problem files turns out that I have right channel only instead of stereo. Either VideoStudio or DVDshrink is dropping the right channel during processing. Hows that for a theory Now what is the workaround.

The pollys are all gone till the Buget sitting thank the maker.

I posted my reply to setarip just after you posted yours, I think my problem is the fact that I only have right channel audio. Any ideas on how to copy the left to the right??

You may have to transfer them again from the tapes.

Don't remind me of the budget - the bastar*ds will probably slug us some more. Seen the price of petrol? - that's their bloody excise tax, mate!

Trying to avoid retaping as it takes so long, mind you after all the time and effort so far it might be the better alternative but I'll have to remember to swap L and R channels

Don't I know it , just got back from a trip to QLD $1.23/litre on the road and over a dollar even in Brisbane.

There was a servo on the road to Jindabyne that had a sign up petrol 20c/l plus tax which at that time was 80c. Next to it was an even bigger sign showing whose hands were in your pocket every time you filled up.

If somewhere during your conversion process you have MPEG (1 or 2) files, you should be able to use "TMPGEnc" (Different than "TMPGEnc DVD Author") to convert the audiostream from mono to stereo.

On the other hand, should you have .AVI files, you can accomplish this with VirtualDub or VirtuaDubMOD...

Thanks for the info, the files have .mpg extensions which I think makes them mpeg2. The odd part is I'm sure they were all recorded on stereo VCRs.
I'm also begining to beleive that I'm looking at an oddity, fault?, in the Conia player, as all DVDs play correctly on a TEAC tv dvd player combo.

In InfoEdit if you open the VTS_01_0.INFO file and then pick one of the entries in the program chain then you can use preview to view that segment of the VOB file, do you happen to know if this is the same way a standalone player would doit? As I understand it a PC reads a DVD disk differently to a player so what I need is a way to simulate on a PC the way a player would play the DVD that way I can isolate the problem better

IfoEdit's player, tho quite old, is actually very good. BUt if you don't have a software player (like PowerDVD, Showtime or WinDVD - yecch), get Media Player Classic (freeware).

What I'm after is a PC DVD player that reads the DVD the same way that a standalone player does. I have read elsewhere in this forum that a PC reads a DVD in such a way that it doesn't follow the internal links, hence the need for IFOedit to fix links so that they work on a standalone player.

If you go with MPC it will play a DVD the way it's meant to. The PC drive will be able to read the disk faster (4x+) than a normal DVD player (which reads at 1x), but the internal navigation commands, and other important info like what is where will be exactly the same.

If you have Nero, Showtime is also excellent. Many folks have PowerDVD.

Will enjoy ANZAC day if Collingwood belts the living bejeesus outa Essendon today at the G.
