I got the same problem with a BIOS update witch only worked in real DOS Mode. I´ve done this by starting up with the Boot CD 'Max Blast 3' from Maxtor (download is free on Maxtor´s site). It´s a comfortable partition program but never mind. The good thing about it if you close the program you are able to work with a RAM Drive. So you can change the CD and copy the firmware file and the flash program on the RAM Drive. From RAM Drive you can now flash your SBW Device. But don´t forget you can´t make any Backup of your old firmware cause every data on the RAM Drive will be deletet if you start your Computer again.
Cynthia and blutach...you guys got over my head pretty quick there. I understand that the suggestion of putting everything on a bootable CD drive will NOT work? If you can give me some very idiot-proof instructions I'd appreciate it. I'd normally be unafraid to experiment, but apparently there is a good chance of irretreivably screwing up my computer or drive in this case. What's the best easiest method to do make my toshiba dvd region free? borrow a USB floppy, make a bootable floppy, and go from there?
