Playback using Sharp XR-1S multimedia projector

Problem - I try to play my DVDs using my notebook (IBM T40), using WINDVD, hooked up to my Sharp XR-1S Multimedia projector. It doesn't project. When I use WINAMP or WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER to play home videos I shot with my digital camera, I have no problems. Please help! I also tried using S-Video, but that didn't work either.

Do you have a software DVD player installed on your notebook?

I'm fairly certain that Windows Media Player 10 supports DVD which would be one way round your problem.
What's actually happening with WinDVD, is there no projection at all or an empty frame?

Empty frame. I think i did try to play it on Windows Media 10, but the same thing - the frames show up but not the movie itself.

Aha! Try going into your display settings and turn off hardware acceleration?

I tried that, but then the DVD wouldn't play at all... I tried Windows 10 and it wouldn't play my DVD.

Okay, well, I actually figured it out with some tinkering.

I have to use an s-video cable, and then go to my display settings and change it to TV. That made the movie show up!
