    Jerky playback on PC???

I tried to play a DVD on a 1 gHz PIII with a cheap video card and the playback was very jerky. Is a 1 gHz PIII fast enough to play a DVD?

The real question is, is the jerky playback caused by the CPU being too slow or by the low end video card?

A 1gig/P3 is ample to playback video. Anything over a 4meg video card should be sufficient also. First thing I'd do is try different DVD player software. Media Player Classic is a good choice. If it still plays up, repost and we can suggest other things to try. Link below.

Hmm... SourceForge is down. Try this link instead.

Are you playing the DVD in "Full Screen"? or in a Window?

According to Windows the video card is a Trident Video Accelerator Blade 3D with 8 MB of RAM. I tried both Media Player Classic and VLC Media player. The playback was jerky with both.

As I said, the system is a 1 gHz PIII. It is running Win2k Server SP3 with all updates except SP4 installed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

          "8 MB of RAM"
          Think that is your problem.

How much RAM do I need on the video card?

I have a PIII 1Ghz PC as well but my video card has a 32MB memory AGP4X and have 512MB system memory. No problems viewing DVDs on my PC (full screen).

Hope the above helps as reference.
