    Stressed DVD-ROM drive???

    Hi!

I've just purchased an Artec DHI-G40 16x DVD-ROM drive (firmware v2.0), and i'm quite satisfied with its overall performance...but i have a little problem here (plz tell me if i'm wrong): my last CD-Drive (24x), upon insertion of a CD, would recognize it as usual, and when dealing with some type of content (such as mp3 or divx...) the drive would automatically slow down the speed after some minutes, adjusting it to the minimum necessary, causing a quiter operation and less stressing for the drive.
However this doesn't happen with the DVD-drive: no matter what type of content the CD has (mp3, divx...except audio ones...duh eheh), the drive insists to read the CD at its maximum speed (40x) as long as the CD is being read. The speed is only slowed, after some time, if the CD is not being read at all.
This causes an exagerated noise operation, not to mention the high temperature of the drive (since drive does NEVER slow down speed while reading), during all operations even the most insignificant (divx, mp3, in-game music...). Currently i'm using Nero Drive Speed to slow "the beast", but this is quite boring...

So, could anyone tell me if this is normal to a DVD-ROM drive or am i dealing with some kind of anomally?

Btw, i can't really say if the same happens with DVDs, since i played few until today!! Thx to u all!!
Working...
