Playback problems - frame speed and audio sync

    Hello, once again:

Have recently bought the French edition of '55 Days at Peking'. Unfortunately, the English-audio version plays with forced subtitles in French. Very irritating ! So, I decided to re-author a backup with subtitles removed.

I de-crypted via DVDFab, and re-authored in Shrink - setting the Default Streams to English Audio only, and selecting 'Hide sub-pictures'.

I burned the discs initially with 1-Click, and (after experiencing the playback problems below) Roxio.

Both the files and the disc play PERFECTLY through my soft (VCL) player, but when I try to play the disc in my new (and otherwise excellent)
Sony DVP-NS30 standalone, I get the following problems:

    1. The opening frames of the first chapter move around twice their normal
speed (like a Charlie Chaplin movie), before settling down. This occurs
again at random points throughout the film

    2. There is some skipping in the audio (words missing)

    3. TOTAL sound-audio de-sync later on................

I ONLY ever use top-of-the-range media (TDK and Sony), by the way !

I've tried various settings in Shrink ('Smooth', 'Max Smooth' etc etc) - all to no avail.

I've had a good look round the Forum, but have no idea what the problem/solution could be (and I'm still relatively new to all this). I've backed up over 50 discs so far and never experienced anything like it.

Could this possibly have something to do with the (mysterious) VTS Start-Sector Addresses - which I don't FULLY understand ? Otherwise:

Does ANYONE have any ideas, please ?

    Many thanks !

It seems strange it would play ok in the software player and/or that reauthoring with Shrink would cause those symptoms. But the SAP (stand alone player) problems sure sound like a badly authored DVD. The "Get VTS Sectors" refers to a function in IfoEdit which repairs the alignment of the VTS (video title sets), I would suggest you try doing a mock strip with IfoEdit as it may solve the playback problems here's 2COOL's Mock Strip guide.

Another possibility off the top of my head is that the dvd uses ILVU's, but if that's the case, playback in the software player should be screwed up as well.
