DVDs play on PC, not in standalone

I have tried to Burn MIllion Dollar baby. (Among others)
I have tried different combinations of Software, but I get the same end result. I can play the burnt DVD on the PC, but not on my standalone.

This has only just started happening, I have burnt about 50 DVDs (from the same spindle - Tuff Disc 8x)

I have run Nero's tool to check the Disc and all sectors come back 100% green.

My process is this:
1. DVD43 is running and just use DVDShrink - burning with Nero or DVDDecryter
2. DVD43 is running use DVDDecrypter to burn Files (File mode) to HD, then use IFOEdit press get VTS sectors, close repeat until it does nothing then use DVDShrink - burning with Nero or DVDDecryter
3. DVD43 not running Use DVDFabDecrypter then DVDShrink to shrink and then burn with Nero
4. Probably some combination of the above

All the same result, No errors, DVDs play fine on PC but just not on my standalone (Have tried using my PS2 as a DVD player too to check that - same result)
My DVD Player plays previously burned DVDs from the same spindle of blanks.

I have tried removing Nero InCD and making DVDShrink only burn to 4,300Mb, also made sure that there are AC3 tracks - ie didn't untick any boxes in DVDShrink, defragged my HD this week.

I get no errors and its making me mad!!

The only thing that I can think of is the media is bad, I have ordered some expensive media (taiyo yuden) but not arrived yet.

Does anyone have any ideas on what else I could try, please excuse me if I have done something daft as I am fairly new to this (It just worked before - first problem I've come across)

I can generate log files if that helps you, though I had no errors in the process from any of the software.

good chance it is the media, let us know how the TY discs turn out. million dollar baby can be backed up with dvdshrink alone (r1)

I don't think that its the original DVDs as it has started happening with almost all DVDs, Shrek 2, Shark Tale. All DVDs I'm trying, well 95%, are R2
(I did try just using DVD43 running and using DVDShrink already - same result)

While I will try some TY media I don't think it is the media as they play fine on my PC. Have you or anyone got any ideas on what else to try other than different media?

There is no need to keep ripping the DVD, once is enough unless DVDDecrypter shows alot of Read Errors. Sounds like you've checked some of the basics in your setup have you checked the DMA settings of your hard drive and burner?

Ok I think that this DMA stuff has something to do with it. Please see the file to see what I did. (Not sure if I've made it worse or not?)
Please have a look and see if it is now right. (Unfortunately I still gave the same issue though)
I have put in the 2 attached files - had to split them as combined were too large.

Ok, you now have what is technically known as 'a big mess'
Too many duplicate controllers, who knows which one it's using. Boot into "Save Mode" and go into device manager and remove ALL of those IDE controllers. Reboot normally and windows should find and install one set of controllers.

Well, I took the plunge and reformatted my machine, then updated it with the latest drivers from Asus, for my DVD player (Although this was from before as I had previously flashed it) latest drivers for my nvidia graphics card etc. BUT, in device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI I have the following lines:


Nvidia CK804 ADMA controller (v2.7)
Nvidia CK804 ADMA controller (v2.7)
Nvidia CK804 Parallel ATA controller (v2.7)

Does that sound right to you?

Souns ok for the nVidia drivers, but last I remember (a year ago or so) the default m$ drivers were considered to be the best to use in terms of both reliability and speed.

Thanks for your thoughts - where would I get those MS ones from?
Are you suggesting remove those 3 entries and reboot?
I do not want to end up with 3 repeat entries as I had previously.
That was tres dull

The M$ drivers are part of windows. You would probably have to remove the nVidia .INF files to keep them from trying to re-install themselves. Don't worry about it, I'm sure they are better now

Hi there,
Well in case you were wondering, I got annoyed, formatted the PC and it works again now, so don't know what caused it or how to fix it as I tried reinstalling all drivers etc...

(I know that's not much of an answer - however, if anyone has had the same problem and knows how to fix it, I'm still intrigued....)
