damn nvidia ge-force2 mx400 with 64mb

To all the people who have this card. Please sell it if you try to watch movies on tv ok. Almost every body i know and even people on internet have god damn problems with this card. Everybody buys it cause its cheap but believe me its is crap. It is goddamn slow on games and i never met anybody who had a clear pic on tv and nobody who can do a tv out without black borders. and i also encounter people who couldn't even do a tv out on some programs as example power dvd xp. So be smart and buy an other card. but not this one. Just buy a Ge-Force 3 or sometin or just an whole other one but please be smart.

thank for your answer, but is it really necessary to buy a new card?
isn´t there any new driver which solves all this problems?

i donno if it is a driver prob but as far as i know the only 64 mb card that is bad with tv-out is the Ge-Force 2 so. If it is a driver prob your lucky but i am afraid that it is just the card.

I concur, there are numerous problems reported on this forum relating to this graphics card.

Perhaps you may want to search the forum as there are many posts related to this topic. As far as I remember, most people use tvtool to view movies using the tv-out function on their tv.

I know what ya mean but even that tool gives a border on this card. So maybe it is a driver prob but i have my doubts.

I've tried all of the Detonator packages and it seems that the only version that gives the correct display on the tv-out is the 12.41. All the other, like said here, don't use the full tv-screen and leaves black frames, besides the letter-box, to the left and right of the picture.

Now, if only they could follow the correct implementation of OpenGL so that I wouldn't have to run GLSetup everytime I want to play a game..

I don't know, I have a Ge-Force 2 MX 200 (which is even cheaper) and the TV quality isn't bad... Try using TVTool for getting rid of the black borders, using its "Full Screen" mode.

I have the GeForce 2 MX 400 and it is a truly shocking card. It does everything it says on the box, but poorly. The best example is I know it is a 64MB card, it says on the startup BIOS, but the drivers will only ever detect it as a 32MB card!!

My recommendation would be to get a Radeon 8500 LE and clock it to standard 8500 specs. It is a magnificent card and you can get it for £150.

As far as driver updates go for the GeForce, check www.3dchipset.com but keep your fingers crossed for any improvements.

In addition, you can not ever get a good picture on a TV as they are in effect the same as a VERY VERY low resolution monitor. They use some special algorithms to convert the picture so it can be displayed on a TV as most video cards now will not even go to that low a resolution (320x240 - I think). I suppose you could look at it as some form of compression. When you compress you always loose quality, especially if you're doing it by 50% from 640x480 res!!

Many people, attain very good quality form that card. At doom9.org forums, some people described the movie quality, of their graphics card, as very good. They could view a divx movie using the tv-out function, and it turned out to be better than cable movies.

It probably varies with the manufacturer of the card. Not every manufacturer uses the same TV-out chip.

I use a Siluro (GF2MX200, 32mb) in my server which plays movies on the TV _IN_LINUX_ even, and it looks damn good (and DVDs look excellent).

It has small black borders on the side, but I never notice them when I'm watching the movie with the lights off.
