    movies play SLOW AS MUD

On my *pardon french* F8CKIN' $2000+, 3 year old Sony Vaio PCG-FRV26 with 512 MB DDR SDRAM (video uses some of that) heats up and shuts off even on a glass coffee table. Will a standard cooling pad really stop the heating up for good?

And to stay on topic with the forum, I play DVD's on the monitor and sometimes the computer won't play it because it says "Doesn't recognize drive disc in drive F:" even though there is a brand new DVD in it. And when it does play some (the ones it will) it plays slow as **** in any video size for Windows Media Player

I even tried Power DVD because it uses a minimal set of codecs and other computer hogging software compared to Media Player at least. Well I'm going to check out Divx, Quicktime, and perhpaps some others but otherwise while I'm searching, could anyone give me some input as to why my discs are playing so slow? WTF>>>>

I am particularly upset because I paid so much and I am getting very little as far as playing and copying media. Partnered with my HP dc300 DVD writer/Source capture I have backed up a host of family tapes successfully but on the same coffee table I alluded to earlier I am wasting DVD+r's (and more.. money) on my stupid laptop shutting off halfway through disc backup. This was supposed to be an enjoyable and lucrative enterprise and so far I feel I'm not getting a lot done because I'm making some kind of mistake somewhere along the line. No one in my family is familiar with DVD copying so I can't ask anyone else..

3 years is enough time to get windows xp pretty corrupt and accumulate a lot of dust. Laptops were designed for portability not performance. If you have already reloaded recently I would suggest optimizing your computer.

the first 2 stickies at the top

get the cooling pad, a good with external power
