FDR. American Experience Ripped, Burned but Won't play

I just backed up my copy of FDR. I had no problems ripping w/ Shrink and no problems burning with Decrypter. But the disk won't play in my Sony DVD player. It does play on the computer. When I used pgcedit, it tells me that all protections had already been removed and thus it will now close. Please help.

Is the disc clean?? Please see my signature.

If it is, have you scanned it with Nero CD/DVD speed?? Maybe you got a (very) rare bad disc.

Is your player compatable?? You could check videohelp about your player.

I will read your sig in just a sec. Quickly, the disks are fine, I had to split the documentary into three disks (the title had 2 disks) and all three backup copies are having the same problem.

Running CD-DVD speed as we speak. No labels. All previous backups work fine on the player.

I'm actually interested, if possible, to try to extract the files from the defective backup copy and fix what apparently is the bad file (VTS_02_4.VOB. see above)

You got a bad burn. Go back to your original DVD and start again. Or try RipIt4Me.

And verify your burns in future. Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

Problem solved! Thanks for your help.

FIY: Here's what happened. I'm using Verbatim Advanced AZO DVD+ (MCC-004-00). The disks' label says "up to 16x", not something like "4x-16x." Using my Sony DRU-720A (JY08) and Decrpter set to 4x, the backups were inexplicably and invariably written at 6x.

Apprently, 6x is the lowest speed the disks can be written (at least on the my Sony anyway.) Still, why all three initial backups of three different ISOs wouldn't work in my stand alone player is beyond me. I've backed up many files using the same combination just described above at various speeds (2.4x to 16x), and never had three (or for that matter, two) consecutive bad burns.

I then decided to use the drive that came w/ my laptop (HL GCA- 4040N, C113) , which of course was a different unit and, more importantly, can ONLY write up to 4x. And along w/ Decrypter set at 4x, the backups came out fine.

The only problem I had was that in Decrypter the device buffer wouldn't stay constant and the write rate consistently fluctuated from 1.5x to 2x (by the way, I did check my DMA settings), resulting in an inordinately long write at about 35 min. for a 4gb file.

Anyway, just thought I let you know and thanks for you guys' imput.

Glad it worked. You might like to change to ImgBurn, also written by LUK!

Burns on laptops are risky, IMO. Stick to slow speed and great media.
