Playback stutters. Please excuse long post

    Hi all,
First post here. Hope I put this in the correct forum.<O</O
    <O
Anyhow, I am doing a project of building a car PC out of old parts that are lying around and some new parts. Here's the list of parts I'm using:<O
    <O
    Asus CUSI-M<O
    P3-750 cpu<O
    256m pc133 sdram<O
    O/B video<O
    4Gig compact flash -> CF/IDE bootable adapter<O</O
Teac DV-28E-C Laptop DVD drive (Dell 700m) -> USB Ext. slim rom case<O</O
A very small P3 PSU from a Shuttle SFF computer<O</O
    VGA to composite video/s-video adapter<O</O
    7" LCD for display
    <O</O
    <O</O
Can't installed XP directly on CF for some reason so I installed on a 4.3Gig HD and ghosted to CF. It booted up but kept complaining about no space for page file. Too cheap to buy XP lite so I am trying W2k. Currently installed on the 4.3G harddrive so don't know if all this will work on CF. In theory, it should but will have to worry about it later. Anyways, updated W2k with sp4, directx 9.0c, Media Player 9. Installed WinDVD 6. DVD can start playing but stutter. Both video and audio skip every 3 seconds. I must say I'm a little behind on digital video technology for quite a few years so hope someone can give me a few pointers. I really don't know where to start but I guess I ultimately want to get the DVD playback hickup free. There are also non performance issue I need help on. Here are some issues I can think of:<O</O
    <O</O

Is my current cpu speed, ram size, O/B video, dvd drive on usb bus a performance issue? There is a P3-1000 (currently in use) I can swap out.<O</O
    <O</O

Are there other codecs I have to install?<O</O
    <O</O

Will probably need to see if region free firmware is available for the dvd drive but can't seem to return to the firmware site I used to goto.<O</O
    <O</O

Read a lot of articles about killing un-necessary processes for freeup cpu cycles and memory for dvd playback but in the car PC enviroment, it's kind of hard to kill process in every reboot. Is there a way to make it stick in every reboot?<O</O
    <O</O

I guess I have to do away with keyboard. The biggest investment for this project except the 7" LCD is the $80 Targus mouse/trackball/presenter. I figure if all these fail, I can still use it as wireless mouse for the living PC connected to the tv.

<O</OThanks in advance. Any experience and idea will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for such a long post.<O</O<O</O
