    Memorex DVD-MAXX1648 AJ (16X/48X)

This DVD Rom drive is stuck region 2. I have followed the instructions below from the www.firmware site. once i have unzipped the folder it says i have to run it real dos mode only and not the windows command prompt....which i have been told that you cannot do in XP. I am at a loss of how to go about this....can anyone please help me????

    Memorex DVD-MAXX1648 AJ (16X/48X)

    Known firmware : GWH2
    Liteon LTD-163 OEM drive
A RPC-1 utility is available. This utility can RESET or turn ON/OFF the RPC mode. When the RPC is turned OFF, the drive will became a RPC-1 drive.
    RPC-2

    Thanks
    Neil.

    Dont worry

To work in real dos mode you need to boot your pc using a windows 98 boot disk.If you have a friend who has windows 98 do the following,go to start-control panel-add/remove programs-startup disk, and create a boot disk.Start your pc and enter the bios.Change the boot sequence so the pc boots from the floppy first.Voila, now you can work in real dos mode and the rest is up to you. Most firmware have a text file with instructions on how to flash your DVD,READ THEM BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.If you can't find someone with windows 98,there are programs in the Internet,if you search a little, that can create a boot disk for you without the need of windows 98.Most computers have the default setting to boot from the floppy,if there is a bootable one in the drive.Have in mind that using the wrong version of firmware might damage your DVD permanently.Post for any problems you find.

              Hey don't...

Don't forget pal, your only half done.Download the DVD info program (about 50Kb) from digital-digest.This will tell you if really your DVD is region free now.Although, your software is still region locked, even though your hardware(dvd) isregion free.Download DVD genie and run your movies through that. And your done.If you dont use DVD genie, every once in a while, your software will lock to a certain region, and you'll have to reinstall it.

                  Where to obtain a Bootdisk...

Hi, if you are not as fortunate as our friend above who managed to get a Boot Disk from work. Then here is a site that you can find Boot Disk for nearly any operations system on the IBM Compatable PC Platform.

                  Just go to HTTP://www.bootdisk.com

I have no connection with the above site, I post the link strictly as a source to help people in this thread.

                  Good Luck.
