DVD's won't load- Audiovox D1812

My apologies if this has been asked before, but my cursory searches didn't find anything with this specific title (and I read many threads looking for similar posts).

My kids' 10 month old (out of warranty) Audiovox D1812 portable DVD player won't load a DVD. When a disc is inserted, the screen says "Loading" but never finishes. I've had this particular disc in for over 15 mins.

After some research, I believe the laser focus is out of adjustment and the repair may cost more than buying a new player. I read one thread where someone detailed a mehod to reset the focus on a Sony DVD player; is there a similar method for an Audiovox?

The kids' bought this with their money and I hate to see it get tossed after very little use.

Have you tried cleaning it at all? Are these commercial dvd's or backups?

DVD's won't load- Audiovox D1812

The DVD player used to work perfectly and at some point it just quit loading the DVD's that it previously played. I've tried every DVD we have and not one loads. My layman's opinion is the player was dropped and some type of alignment was disturbed. We don't own any burned or bootleg DVD's.

Did you ever find a fix for your daughters DVD player??
I could have written your question....my daughter is in the same boat. Had her player about 12 months. One day it worked...next day won't load any DVD!
