Well, I finally upgraded from WMP9 to WMP10 today (not interested in WMP11 right now) and I can't keep the DVD Video box unchecked. Under Tools/Options/File Types, I keep unchecking the DVD Video box, applying and hitting OK and it keeps coming back checked either while still in WMP10, out and then back in, or getting back in after a reboot. Any ideas how I can keep this box unchecked? Altering registry settings? Everything else is set to what I want it in WMP10 right now except that. Thank you.

I tried that and VOB is already set to PowerDVD and DVD Video does not even appear. Anything else I should be looking for in Folder Options?Comment

I personnaly have take no action chosen in mine but If you want a certain program to play Dvd Movie then, right click on the drive / Properties / Autoplay / from drop down menu, Dvd Video / Select An Action To Perform & choose your player from the list. Then it shouldn't matter what is checked or not checked in WMP, when you insert a Dvd, the player you chose should play it.Last edited by soup; 12 Mar 2007, 01:53 PM.

I wonder if it has something to do with maybe PowerDVD being a WMP10-compatible DVD decoder (if it is anyway) and it will just remained checked because of that? M$ does show VOB as the extension for the DVD Video file type, so I guess I'm fine if PowerDVD comes up as associated with that file type.
Yes, I have "take no action" chosen for everything on all CD/DVD drives. I hate most of that automatic crap. If I have to, I'll uninstall and reinstall from a stand-alone file I have on my system. I guess I shouldn't have used Windows Updates. I'll just not worry about it for now and if I have any problems or epiphanies I'll come back to this thread.
EDIT: Same thing happens at work with WMP10, except VOB files don't even appear in File Types and I have no DVD device at work.Last edited by SkaarjMaster; 13 Mar 2007, 06:57 AM.Comment

Just had no problem getting rid of it on my Mom's computer with WMP9. Must just be a bug in WMP10. Anyone know anything about this at all?Comment

VOB file is already there and associated with PowerDVD. I don't think I can create it again and then say it is assoc. with DVD Video. DVD Video is not listed as an association type either and it won't let me add it.Comment

Yep, not even listed. I wonder why that is? Could it be related to any XP tweaks I may have applied in the past?Comment

Any other ideas? I may just try uninstalling WMP10, rebooting and reinstalling and see if that does the trick. I did make sure NOT to check DVD Video when I installed, I do know that for a fact.Comment

All right, before I try uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling WMP10, I would like to know if there's anything special I need to do besides going into Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs and doing it this way? Thank you.Comment

OK, I rolled back to WMP9 and it does the same thing. DVD Video file type is still checked within WMP no matter how many times I uncheck it, apply and hit OK. I then installed WMP10 from downloaded file instead of through Win Updates and the same thing again. Unless someone knows why this keeps happening, I may just have to live with it.Comment
