Use PowerDVD, MPC sucks( in my opinion),

I personally think you' better buy one rahter than useing free softwares whose quality can't be guaranteed.

For a free DVD player, you can't really go past Media Player Classic. It's a little bit harder to set up and first and the interface doesn't look at pretty as PowerDVD, but it works and that's the most important things. You might also want to try the prettier AVS DVD Player, also free:

AVS DVD Player is a compact and easy-to-use program that has a simple user-friendly interface allowing you to start watching DVD movies with no additional software.

As for buying a DVD player, I would say that PowerDVD is still the one to go for, PowerDVD Ultra if you want HD DVD/Blu-ray playback as well (if you have the hardware for it).

EVerytime I used it to watch mp4 videos, thousands of icons appeared on my system tray. And it made my computer crashed for 2 times. Not kidding. I didn't know why this happened only on my computer. So I thought it sucks (in my own opinion.)

I'm just guessing here, but you might have problems with multiple versions of ffdshow being installed on your computer. Better to uninstall ffdshow, see if the tray icon still shows up, and if it does, it means you might have another instance of ffdshow installed somewhere. Sometimes you might be just better off installing a codec pack like K-Lite - it will even detect what you have installed on your system, and remove the conflicting ones to get you a working install (that is based on ffdshow and Media Player Classic).

I now use ffdshow to pretty much decode everything on my system.

MPC or VLC, Both "FREE" & work.

So do I. And no complaints whatsoever.
Leandermx has probably got his codecs messed up to give that sort of a problem.BTW,Haali's Media Splitter might also be the source of those tray icons,AFAIR.
