Viewing subtitles from DVD files

I wanted to watch DVDs on my computer without them whirring around next to me, I am not interested in reproducing them in any way. I used a program to put only the main movie onto my hard drive, along with the desired audio and subtitle tracks of course.
I end up with the files "VIDEO_TS.IFO" "VIDEO_TS.BUP" "VIDEO_01_0.IFO" "VIDEO_01_0.BUP" and several "VOB" files.

When I play the movie with PowerDVD 5, the subtitle option is blanked out. When i play it with Windows Media Player 11 the subtitles are there in the options, i can select them, but they will not display.
Is there a way to rectify this? Or maybe a media player that will show the text?

can you make them to iso by imgburn then play with VLC ?

Are you sure there are subtitles in the movie?

Check this out with DVDSubEdit - see link in my signature. Load up VTS_01_1.VOB and see if there are subbies. If PowerDVD has them greyed out, they either do not exist, or are not selectible because of a prohitied user operation (unlikely).

Remember to play the movie by selecting VIDEO_TS.IFO in PowerDVD (and not a VOB).

Thanks NightTran! The ImgBurn-ISO tip worked a treat.
Unfortunately im hard to please and i think VLC is an inferior media player to PowerDVD, for movies anyway. I'll keep on searching for the perfect cure.
Its a good and easy solution though so you get a thumbs up from me.

I used DVDSubEdit and found that there definitely are subtitles in the movie. As well as the fact that they worked in VLC after being converted to the ISO.
When i try to play the VIDEO_TS.IFO with PowerDVD5 (using the 'Open DVD file on hard disk drive' option) it comes up saying "Error Code: 8004027B The DVD-Video playback graph could not be built due to insufficient decoders".
What the heck is that?
Is there a problem if i don't separate the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files into subfolders when creating the DVD files?
Is there a special way to open the VIDEO_TS.IFO in PowerDVD 5?
Can DVDSubEdit help in any other way?

Just use Ctrl-O to open and navigate to VIDEO_TS.IFO. It doesn't have to be in a VIDEO_TS folder.

VLC is an excellent player.

I only use VLC and MPC they cover everything that are worth to view
