1360 x 768 DVD Player ?

I have a Samsung PPM63HQ 63" screen and 1360 x 768 is the highest resolution it accepts via DVI.

My Pioneer DV-400V DVD player currently outputs 720 x 480 and that works fine but it's 1280 x 720 mode doesn't work with the Samsung screen.

Is there a DVD player that upconverts to 1360 x 768 HDMI ?

Would that make much difference to the picture with regular DVD's?

I think the problem is that your TV's DVI input is designed to accept a PC type input with PC style resolutions, whereas your DVD player has HDMI output that outputs TV style resolutions. Basically, your DVD player is outputting a "TV resolution" like 720p while your TV can only accept a "PC resolution" like 1360x768. I could not find further information about your screen, so you will have to check the instructions manual to see if I'm right or not (to see whether the DVI input accepts "TV" resolutions like 720p/1080i, but from what you have posted, it sounds like it does not).

You will definitely see the benefit of "upscaling" your DVD playback to a higher resolution than 480p, although how much depends on how well your TV already scales internally. Unfortunately, due to rather stupid copy protection, upscaling DVD players such as yours cannot do upscaling over component, otherwise you can always use component output to connect to your TV.

Solutions? Other than changing your TV, there's not much you can do. If you can somehow add HDMI input to your TV (some professional plasmas have interchangable input modules, but only the newer ones I suppose), or convert HDMI to component (illegal, again due to copy protection). Another solution is to try and source a DVD player that does do upscaling over component - these are technically illegal, but are available through some small manufacturers that escape under the radar - check out this thread for more info:

The third solution is to use your PC to do the upscaling, but it can be tricky. You can also use the Xbox 360 and its optional VGA connector to get DVD HD upscaling - this is good for your situation because your TV looks to support RGB/VGA input (from the specs listed here: http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/11377...New_Panel.html), and the Xbox 360 can upscale DVD over VGA. If you are getting an Xbox 360 (get the one with HDMI output, for future proofing), you can also grab the HD DVD add-on drive (check out Amazon for free movie deals if you live in the US) and get HD DVD playback going (through component).
