    Hi Jester,

Get a "Philips" dvd player ... DivX capable ... like DVP-5140, DVP-5960 or DVP-5982 ... I have 5982 and it plays everything and anything AND it has a USB port in front of it.

Check out Philips website and decide then shop around ... in US ... best prices are at Best Buy or Wal-mart ... depending on the model.

This is only third hand information, but I have heard stories about the newer Samsungs not playing any backed up discs. On recommendations from a couple of friends my son just bought a Philips DVP 3960 (he's not into the fancy stuff, just wants it to play Dvds), for $49.99.

For $10 more he could have got one as mentioned in Post #2 with a USB port, (can't remember the model #), but like I said he only wanted it to play Dvds. BTW these do have HDMI & will upconvert. They also had a DVR model for $99.99 C/w USB & HDMI.

                Hi folks,

My Philips ... I can plug in my External 320GB Hard Drive via USB and watch any AVI or music file that I want. But remember, the HD has to be Formatted to FAT32 and any HD larger than a Jump drive will have to have it's Own External Power connected to it ... since the DVD Player will not have enough juice to drive it.
