PC hanging when watching original DVD

When watching A Perfect storm my PC will hang after between 15-30 minutes; the time varies. I alt+ctrl+del and the blue screen of death comes up and press any key. I then get the dialogue box and close the dvd player (WinDVD3 ver2.3) and the PC returns to normal.
I restart WinDVD and carry on watching until next time it hangs.
    Any ideas.
I have closed all running apps before starting so only systray and explorer are running and the system is running at 93%.

Bring down your overclocking to stock speed. Update your video driver and DirectX version, if necessary.

      Thanks Enchanter,

I will try running CPU at default speed. I have the latest reference drivers for the G card and DirectX 8.1.
Will see how it goes.

        No, I don't think that's it.
Since I inadvertently installed the PC Friendly player that the A Perfect Storm DVD prompted (I tried cancelling the install only to find my Win DVD would not operate) there has been a problem with my default player.
I uninstalled the PC Friendly and that did not help. WinDVD now freezes just seconds after initialising the first movie companies promo.
I have searched the registry for any residual software traces without luck.
I hate companies that insinuate you use their software
Any ideas. Looks like another OS reinstall!!!!!
