question on multiregion dvd player

Hi,


I understand last time the dvd player, we can change the region settng by puting different region dvd to play and it will auto change the region

But the problem is that it can only change the region setting for around 3 to 5 time. After that it will stick to the last region that u play set and u cant play other region dvd anymore <--- correct mi if i am wrong.

Does this problem apply to the new dvd player that have the feature of playing mulitregion dvd?

can someone Pls enlighten me .

Assuming you mean a DVD drive for the computer? Then yes, after the "hardware counter" counts down to 0 (usually from 5), you don't get to change the region coding anymore.

There are different solutions around this depending on your drive. Some drive can be updated with region-free firmware to get rid of the hardware counter. Some can have the counter reset, or you can go the all software route and install a software that prevents region checking from occurring, and so make your software play any DVDs regardless of your drive's region status. Here's a list of software that will do this:

If the standalone DVD player is said to be multi-region, then it shouldn't have a counter and it should just play DVDs from any region for an unlimited number of times. Otherwise, it's not really a multi-region player.

Some of these players simply have the region code set to 0, so they will play most DVDs from most regions. The best ones allow you to either change the region code of the player manually, or deals with RCE protected discs properly (RCE discs use a region check that prevents playback on players that have the region set to 0).

Some locked players will have codes that you can enter on the remote control to unlock it, or perhaps to reset the counter even.

Which player (brand, model) are you referring to? Perhaps I can help track down the region status and/or the existence of any remote codes for it.

My dvd player is actually a portable DVD player.
Brand is Shinco - SDP-1720c

Then it looks like it's region-free, and it should support RCE discs as well judging by the comments posted by other users.

All of this is a bit confusing to me. I have a new desktop computer. A Gateway. I downloaded DVD Shrink and tried to make a backup copy of a DVD from Japan. I was hoping there would be no problem, but it wants me to specify the region and I do not want to have to deal with this counter. I have other discs that are region 2 and do not want to go back and forth. I tried to open it, but was told to change the setting. I see that you posted this link, but I do not really know what I am looking for on the list. Please help. What do I need to turn off the counter?
